Sol Donum’s VULCAN Battery backup system is their entry level battery power system that is designed to operate as a power system that is compatible in the house at a level similar to a small Powerwall system but doesn’t require the complexity or permanence of a Powerwall – or the price. Vulcan power systems can run a variety of power levels depending on how you order them, and an accept multiple battery plug-in expansions that can be stacked. The systems can be configured for 120-volt or 240-volt power allowing them to be usable in situations with well pumps or higher voltage appliances needed during a power outage. The units come in multiple configurations that can support solar panels for power input during off-grid periods, or have configurations that drop the solar charging for a more affordable system that can provide power during short rolling blackouts and then be recharged back up when the power restores.

Sol Donum is one of a very few solutions that is manufactured in the United States making it available for solutions that require US Built only solutions. The company also offers the ability to build custom solutions for installations that may have unique needs – a service unique thanks to their roots here in the US.

These are also more easily service units in case the need arises. Units can be self-serviced or serviced by a solar specialist easily thanks to industry standard components – in a time where often the need to wait for serviceable components to come from China is helpful cutting down on service time if the need were to arise.

Vulcan units can be placed online to provide pass-through power for sensitive equipment such as medical equipment with a near-real-time cutover to backup power if the inbound power should fail making these the perfect UPS solution. The LiFeP04 Lithium batteries offer long life and high capacity storage. The units shown above are configured for 5-kW of standby power by connecting both units together through a rear pairing cable. Their units are in two configurations:

  • The power unit itself which provides 2-kWh of LiFeP04 battery power, and
  • The “Battery Store” unit which is an expansion with 3-kWh of LiFeP04 battery power.

The power unit contains the initial battery along with the charger and power inverter unit while the battery store expansion unit contains a charger for the batteries and a connectivity to the primary power unit. By not having the power Inverter in the power store there is additional room for the additional 1-kWh battery. Additional “Battery Store” units can also be added to boost the available power above the 5-kWh size as needed.

The Vulcan series is the entry system from Sol Donum. In addition to Vulcan, Sol Donum also produces their R-Power solutions offering up to 15-kWh of power, and MicroGrid solutions which are scaled down versions of a power grid network capable of producing and providing power to multiple customers.
